Australian Skilled Visa

The Skilled Migration Program is specifically designed to target migrants who have
skills or outstanding abilities that will contribute to the Australian economy

Your occupation must be on the 'New Skilled Occupations List' to qualify to immigrate to Australia. 
 This list will be updated on a regular basis.

You must meet basic eligibility and/or pass a points test in order to be eligible to apply for

Offshore Skilled Independent 


The Offshore Skilled Independent visa is a permanent visa available to workers who have skills in demand in the Australian labour market.

Applicants for the Offshore Skilled Independent visa are not sponsored and must under the age of 45 at the time of application, have suitable English language skills, pass a points test and nominate an occupation from the Skills Occupations List.

Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation.

To qualify for the Offshore Skilled Independent visa, you must provide proof that you worked a minimum of 12 months out of the last 24 months in the nominated occupation, or have met the two-year, full-time study in Australia requirement within the last six months.

You can apply for an Offshore Skilled Independent visa while in Australia, unless you have a current visa with a condition preventing you from doing so; however, you must be outside of Australia before the visa is granted.

The exception to this is New Zealand citizens, who can apply and be granted an Offshore Skilled Independent visa while in Australia.

           
 

Offshore Skilled Sponsored

 
The Offshore Skilled Sponsored visa is a permanent visa available to those who do not meet the Offshore Skilled Independent pass mark. 

Applicants for the Offshore Skilled Sponsored visa must be sponsored by an eligible relative residing in Australia, or must be nominated by a participating State or Territory Government. 

In addition to this requirement, applicants must also be under 45 years of age at the time of application, have suitable English language skills, pass a points test and nominate an occupation from the Skilled Occupations List.

Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation.

To qualify for the Offshore Skilled Sponsored visa, you must provide proof that you were employed at least 12 of the last 24 months before the time of application in the nominated occupation, or you must have met the two-year, full-time study in Australia requirement within the last six months.

You can apply for an Offshore Skilled Sponsored visa while in Australia, unless you have a current visa with a condition preventing you from doing so; however, you must be outside of Australia before the visa is granted.

The exception to this is New Zealand citizens, who can apply for and be granted an Offshore Skilled Sponsored visa while in Australia. 

             

Onshore Skilled Independent

The Onshore Skilled Independent visa is a permanent visa available to overseas students who have completed a minimum of two years of full-time study in Australia.

They must have obtained a degree, diploma or trade qualification from an Australian educational institution in the last six months and who are eligible for permanency immediately.

The Onshore Skilled Independent visa is also available to those who have a Skilled Graduate, Recognised Graduate or Trade Skills Training visa and skills that are in demand in the Australian labour market. 

Applicants for the Onshore Skilled Independent visa are not sponsored and must be under the age of 45 at the time of application and have suitable English language skills.

They must pass a points test and nominate a 50- to 60-point occupation on the Skilled Occupations List. Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation.
 

    

 
Onshore Skilled Sponsored

The Onshore Skilled Sponsored visa is a permanent visa for overseas students who currently hold a Skilled Graduate, Recognised Graduate or Trade Skills visa.

They must also have skills that are in demand in the Australian labour market and who have completed a minimum of two years of full-time study in Australia resulting in a degree, diploma or trade qualification from an Australian educational institution. 

Applicants for the Onshore Skilled Sponsored visa do not meet the Onshore Skilled Independent visa pass mark and must either be sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated by a State or Territory Government. 

In addition, Onshore Skilled Sponsored visa applicants must be under the age of 45 at the time of application, have suitable English language skills.

They must pass a points test and nominate a 50- to 60-point occupation on the
Skilled Occupations List. Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation.
 

Offshore Regional Skilled
Sponsored Visa

The Offshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa is a three-year provisional visa available to those who can meet a lower pass mark on the points test.

Applicants for the Offshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa must either be sponsored by an eligible relative living in a Designated Area of Australia or nominated by a participating State or Territory Government. 

Offshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa applicants must be under the age of 45 at the time of application and must have suitable English language skills. They also must nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupations List. Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation.

In order to qualify for an Offshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa, you must have been employed in the nominated occupation for 12 of the last 24 months immediately preceding the time of application, or you must have met the two-year, full-time study in Australia requirement within the last six months.

If your most recent work experience was obtained in Australia, the required 12 months of employment in your nominated occupation can be out of the last four years, rather than the last 24 months. 

After obtaining an Offshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa, living in a Specified Regional Area for two years and working a minimum of one year in the Specified Regional Area, you will be eligible to apply for a permanent visa. 

Onshore Skilled Graduate 

The Onshore Skilled Graduate visa is an 18-month, temporary visa available to overseas students who have completed a minimum of two years of full-time study in Australia.

They must have obtained a degree, diploma or trade qualification from an Australian educational institution.

The Onshore Skilled Graduate visa is designed for those who cannot currently pass the points test and allows them to remain in Australia for 18 months.

During this time they will have the opportunity to gain the experience and skills required for eligibility for a permanent or provisional Skilled Migration visa.

There is no points test for the Onshore Skilled Graduate visa.

Applicants for the Onshore Skilled Graduate visa must be under the age of 45 at the time of application and must have suitable English language skills.

 They also must nominate a 50- to 60-point occupation on the
Skilled Occupations List. Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated occupation.

      
 
Offshore Skilled Recognised Graduate

The Offshore Skilled Recognised Graduate visa is an 18-month, temporary visa available to graduates of Recognised Overseas Educational Institutions who have skills that are in demand in the Australian labour market. 

Applicants for the Offshore Skilled Recognised Graduate visa must be under the age of 31 at the time of application and must have suitable English language skills.

There is no points test for the Offshore Skilled Recognised Graduate visa, and holders may apply for permanent residence any time they are able to meet the pass mark on the General Skilled Migration points test. 
 


Onshore Regional Skilled Sponsored 

The Onshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa is a three-year provisional visa available to people who can meet the lower pass mark for this visa and who are either eligible overseas students or people who are physically located in Australia.

They must also be holders of a Skilled Graduate, Recognised Graduate, Trade Skills Training, Working Holiday Maker or Occupational Trainee visa. 

Obtaining an Onshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa can lead to a permanent Onshore Regional Skilled visa once the requirements for the Onshore Regional Skilled visa have been met. 

Applicants for the Onshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa must either be sponsored by an eligible relative living in a Designated Area of Australia or nominated by a participating State or Territory Government. 

Applicants for the Onshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa must be under the age of 45 at the time of application, meet basic eligibility requirements and have suitable English language skills. They must also pass a points test and nominate a 50- to 60-point occupation on the Skilled Occupations List. Your skills must be assessed as suitable for the nominated position. 

Once you have obtained an Onshore Regional Skilled Sponsored visa, you must live in the Specified Regional Area for a minimum of two year and work in the Specified Regional Area a minimum of one year prior to applying for the Onshore Regional Skilled visa.
